23 May. A splendid haul of over1800 hearing aids and some batteries from our Lions club friends in Chichester. 800 came from Soundseekers but others from as far afield as Blackburn, Bolton, Hailsham, Blandford and Burgess Hill. They will soon be on their way to our friends in the north at Frankland. Well done and thanks everyone. Editors note: Parcelforce took them on 2 June.
24 June. Three weeks away in Newfoundland and return to panic stations. 800 Spam e-mails, 3 viruses that sneaked through Norton and a busted wireless connexion, otherwise the PC was OK! However, we have three more boxes of checked hearing aids from Frankland Prison. I have yet to check on numbers but it must be a thousand. So well done the Frankland team, you are doing a grand job.
25 June. From Christine Rowe of The Lions Club of Launceston an A4 paper box full of old body aids, ideal for some children. Christine is a radiographer at the local hospital as well as her Club secretary. So another Well Done is awarded!
25 June. The PC is at last downloaded and reveals some good news. A Lion from Leicester, whose name I have inadvertently deleted in all the kerfuffle, needed a dozen aids for a visit to India. He has them and we hope to hear where they have gone upon his return. Also Lion Roger Clarke of Towcester and District Lions wants to add his Club to the list of contributors of hearing aids. Welcome aboard Towcester!
1 July. Canada Day of course but in addition we find that we have a most welcome 675 checked hearing aids arrive from Frankland Sight and sound Centre.
20 July. After a little break to recharge in The Lakes we are back at work sending hearing aids to our friends. 200 to Dr Harold Norwood in Brazil, 230 to Dr Hugh Thom in the Philippines and 200 plus a load of batteries to new customers, The Lions Club of Nairobi, Lavington in Kenya. This is via a contact in Chatham Kent. Our fame is still spreading.
27 July. After a bit of a delay the big consignment of body aids is off to Frankland. Apparently someone in Parcelforce had cancelled the contract because it was not generating any money for them. We kind of thought that it was their generous offer not to charge that was the point of the exercise.
29 July. Hearing equipment from far and wide arrive via Chichester. Omagh, Dorset, Burnley and South Norwood, to mention but a few. Thanks to everyone.
