THE LIONS CLUB OF HASTINGS

2006

2 Jan. Having got back from Thailand on the 28th of December and had visitors over the weekend, we have not had much time to sort the goodies that we had from Chichester before Christmas. Now we find a bumper harvest of hearing aids and hearing equipment. The main items are six analysers from The West Dorset General Hospitals, one of which is already on its way to the Ukraine and 16kg (35 lb) of hearing aids from Les Ellis and the Clacton Lions. That really is a magnificent haul and from the Colchester Hospital audiologists.

2 Jan. We have a most useful grandson who is kindly carting the Ukraine bound analyser up to John Fox, as he heads home to Kingston upon Hull.
20 Jan. Richard Hall from Chichester, our Lions Clubs spectacles collector, rings to say that he is hosting a Past Chairman of Council from Nepal called Bodha Chhetry. For non Lions Club members that means he was the top man! Richard asks if Bodha could take a hundred hearing aids back with him? They arrive in Chichester on Saturday morning!
23 Jan. ITMA, (It’s that man again), Richard asks can Bodha have another hundred hearing aids to take home?
So now our first new destination of 2006, Nepal, will get 200. It’s not many really but a small start.
2 Feb. A kind lady in Cardiff has fulfilled her promise to send seven hearing aids and much need batteries. She had also previously given me the address of her local hospital, so I hope that our appeal to them will bear gifts a plenty.
4 Feb. The Chichester Lions attending our South East Annual Convention, here in sunny Hastings, bring a car boot full of hearing equipment. This included fine fruits of the BSHAA appeal, three boxes of aids from Southport Hospital, equipment from Woodford and lots of other hearing aids from anonymous sources.
4 Feb. “Gnasher” Wilkinson, our local Dentaid Lion member brings a grand box of hearing aids to the convention from the Seaford Hearing Care Centre.
4 Feb. Not to be outdone, Sweet Val of Burgess Hill brings her gift of hearing aids as well.
4 Feb. In with all the other items is an audiometer and speech trainer from our friends in Roding Primary School. So all in all it was a most productive weekend.

8 Feb. Two boxes of old hearing aids are on their way, via our chums in Parcel Force, to the technicians in Frankland Prison. There must be 2000 in the boxes

16 Feb. Eighty-five more most welcome hearing aids arrive from Frankland. That is over 300 from them already this year!
