10 Jan. Here we go on another year and the first item is the gift of from a lady in Derbyshire. She has sent her late father’s two hearing aids; the kindness of strangers! 11 Jan. From an ex RAF Apprentice friend we have a plea on behalf of one of the Pakistani lads who trained with us in the 1950s. I trust we can send him a couple of hearing aids and our association will pay for the hearing test, the moulds and fitment. 12 Jan. Our good friend Deirdre Nicol is off to Jordan next month and needs a hundred hearing aids for the clinic she visits. They should off to her within days. 12 Jan. On the very same day a hundred and twenty aids arrive from Frankland, just what we wanted! 15 Jan. Another donated hearing aid arrives from Hearing Concern in London. They all count. 20 January. The latest batch hearing aids arrive from the Frankland Prison team. I have mislaid the packing slip but I know that it was a goodly number, so thanks everyone. 29 January. On her return from a successful visit to the Sudan our friend Islah tells us that they could do with as many body aids as we can spare. She can source earpieces and cords. She now has 248 from us! 9 February. The first hearing aids from Nuneaton Lions arrive with a nice note from treasurer Cedric Brocklehurst. That’s a fine start and thank you. 9 February. Arriving at our South East annual convention to put up the hearing aid stand I am greeted by Graham Parrish of Eastbourne Lions with something like 1500 aids. Apparently the clinic is moving and they have had a good clear out! There are some spare parts as well. 10 February. Chichester Lions have also cleared out their collections from around the country, which brings in a mighty haul. It will take me a while to sort and send all this lot to Frankland. 12 February. 129 hearing aids arrive from Frankland prison ready for us to take to Sri Lanka this week. 232 have gone straight from the prison to Sound Seekers and another 109 to Claire Bain, for Romania. We hope to donate 200 to Chandra Jayasuriya at the Colombo Hospital and 200 to Wellawatta Lions Club, to whom we sent money to buy boats after the Tsunami. 27 February. Our mission to Sri Lanka was completed successfully, plus we enjoyed being warm! 28 February. Three hearing aids and some in date batteries arrive from a lady in Merthyr Tydfil. They were her late mother’s and we are so grateful that we received them. They indeed, will be useful. 1 March. It is good to start a new month on a high because we are sending 15kg of hearing aids up to our “Friends in the North” at Frankland. That is 38lb in old money and a heck of a lot of hearing aids. Well done everyone.
