So popular has it become with many teenagers wanting to take part, that the Mini-Run was inaugurated in 1991. This starts 15 minutes after the main race with entrants running 2.5 Km from the pier along the seafront to the main finish. Everyone crossing the finishing line gets a medal and this event is popular with schools and clubs from around the South East. Not only is it great fun for the runners, it also forms an important aspect of their physical education and is a great team building exercise.
Reading this you may think “They’re mad” let’s face it is your idea of fun running over 13 miles on a March Sunday morning, up hill for most of the first 6 miles before the flat of the Ridge, steep downhill Harold Road then along the seafront, normally into the wind, sometimes rain, before passing the finishing line 1, 2,3 maybe even 4 hours after you started? You may be surprised just how good you feel when you run this event. If you’re up for a challenge, if you want to be part of the biggest event in Hastings, if you want to be able to said “I’ve done that!” then good on you. Entries are still available for this year, www.hastings-half.co.uk or pick up an entry form from the sports shops around the town, Hastings Observer offices or Manor Insurance, Queens Road.
