The Benefits
Lionism must be looked upon as a constructive form of relaxation. Working together on fund-raising and community welfare projects can be tremendous fun. In addition, there are happy social occasions to which members can often invite their partners and sometimes the whole family. These may include Skittles Evenings, Barbecues, Treasures Hunts, Dances and Dinner Nights,
Administration Costs
The complete cost of administering our Association, at all levels, is covered by our members’ subscriptions, which are kept as low as possible. We are not allowed to deduct any percentage of the money raised from public functions for our administrative needs. It all goes to Charity!
Membership
Hastings Lions meet twice a month, mostly in the evenings. Membership is open (by invitation) to those who are prepare to devote some of their spare time to community service and to help the club achieve its objectives. From 1917 to 1987, membership was for men only. It is now possible for clubs to invite women to join; each club sets its own policy on this issue. (In many parts of Britain, there are also Lioness Clubs for women and Leo Clubs for young people). Hastings Lions have four lady members.
