1 May. Another kind lady, this time in north London sends in two hearing aids and some ancillary items. One is a body aid and cord, gold dust! 10 May. I have at last got hold of the latest collection of hearing equipment from our Chichester chums. Apart from a nice lot from their hospital we have known donations from as far a field as Elmet in W Yorkshire, Ipswich, Kirkham and Fylde, Southport again, Newhaven, Seaford and Peacehaven, Lancaster and Morecambe and Aberdeen. To top it off I collect a large bag of hearing aids from our Conquest Hospital here in Hastings. It all adds up to a 9.5 kg (21lb since our masters in Brussels will let us use them again) box heading for Frankland prison. And there’s more because we also had 3 audiometers and a speech aid from the Royal Preston Hospital, courtesy of the Lancaster and Morecambe Lions Club. Thanks to all of you and well done. 14 May. Chichester Lions send us yet another batch of hearing aids and equipment including some valuable loops from Derbyshire Social Services. Also included is a welcome collection of hearing aids from Jill Humphries at The British Society of hearing Aid Audiologists. 15. May. Still more hearing aids, this time from our good friend Peter Johnston in Dorchester. The parcel for the prison must be up to 10kg by now. 21 May. Speech Hearing Officer for Lions in the NW Midlands, Edith Davies send us half a dozen hearing aids and several packs of in date batteries, for which we say thanks. 21 May. Lion Alan Somers tells us that he has been appointed hearing officer for his Lions Club, not identified but we know that it is in Peter Weatherill land of East Yorkshire, and wants information on the Project. Welcome aboard Alan. 30 May. A batch of 190 hearing aids from Frankland prison are more that welcome as Islah has been in touch and wants some more for Egypt and Sudan. 14 June. We seem to be having a little lull until a mystery package of hearing aids and batteries arrive from the Reading area. 15 June. Another welcome 90 hearing aids from Frankland Prison because I must get 600 aids packed and off to Egypt, Sudan and Nepal next week. 15 June. The prison has sent 160 hearing aids to Soundseekers direct, jolly good. 21 June. Three hundred hearing aids are on their way to the Sudan and Egypt via Londoner Isla. Egypt is a new country for us. 21 June. A plea from Lion Bohda in Nepal is answered by another 300 are on their way to him in Kathmandu. 600 sent out in one day must be another record. 25 June. Old friend from Nigeria, Afolabi Simeon, breezes in to London and needs some equipment to take back by 6 July. Already 100 hearing aids are in the post along with a couple of hundred batteries. We await his request for anything more. 26 June. An audiometer and a tympanometer are donated by Carol Gupwell and a haul of hearing aids from Celia at the Conquest Hospital. It makes it all worthwhile! 30 June. At the end of a miserable month for weather in the UK we are cheered by the arrival of 65 hearing aids from Frankland Prison. That’s good because our stocks are now low. They have also supplied 298 to Soundseekers and 135 to Open Ears Worldwide. So they are really working well. Thanks everyone up in Durham.
