THE LIONS CLUB OF HASTINGS

2Nov. A lady from Buckinghamshire, who sent us some hearing aids in 2003, sends us 5 more. She asks if we are still involved. We are and happily so!
12 Nov. 267 welcome hearing aids arrive from Frankland. Some will be heading to Nepal almost immediately.

12 Nov. Twenty-six high gain hearing aids are about to start their journey to Nepal to our friend Lion Bodha Chhetry.
15 Nov. Another hearing aid arrives from our friend in Sydenham, whose stepfather was originally from Ceylon. Coals to Newcastle really as we are taking 200 hearing aids to Sri Lanka in February. Also we have the promise of one from a lady in Hampton Magna, Warwickshire. Hampton Magna is a lovely name and perhaps, though I hope not, could be the setting of Midsomer Murders. No, it is too nice for that!
19 Nov. A visit to the Conquest Hospital brings forth a large bag of old hearing aids.
22 Nov. The promised hearing aid from Hampton Magna arrives.
23 Nov. I am off to the post office with about 4kg of hearing aids for Frankland.

23 Nov. Audiologist friend and ally Carol Gupwell has friend going to Ecuador “yesterday” and needs as many hearing aids as possible. 257 will have to do!
3 Dec. 200 welcome hearing aids arrive from Frankland and they have sent 170 to other charities. So this record year becomes even more of a record.
3 Dec. A number of hearing aids and some batteries come from an audiologist in Cheshire to add to the goodies.
30 Dec. We are just about to close this year, after a quiet December, when Dr Chandra contacts us from Sri Lanka to say that she could do with some more hearing aids. I guess we will be well loaded on our trip to that country in February.
20 Dec. Peter Weatherill, bless his little cotton socks, has just returned from a business visit to China loaded with batteries for us. The money for this was provided by Lions Clubs from all over the countries of our multiple district.
30 Dec. OK folks that is it for 2007, a bad year for some but a good year for others. For us it has been another record year for hearing aids sent overseas, as a result of our Project. We did not quite manage to burst the 5000 barrier but 4961 is close. And the collections that have been sent to us have meant that Frankland Prison technicians will be kept busy for a while longer. It is a pity that we have lost the Inside Out Trust, who went into liquidation earlier this year but the prison will cope for some time yet we trust.

Thanks to everyone who helped to give the gift of hearing to the 5000 people who would otherwise would suffer in silence!
